Bilibili Animation Makes Chinese “Two-dimension Ecnomy” into the Global Business

On March 28, 2018, China Bilibili animation was listed on NASDAQ, and the two dimensions (animation, cartoon, game and other subcultures), which is born in Japan, now is evolving into a global business activity by Chinese enterprises. The concept of ” two-dimension ecnomy ” was created in 2015 by Cheng Wu CEO from Tencent, which is the one of the most prominent IT companies in China. He mentioned that ” The creation of popular culture by using the Intellectual Property (IP) and promote it through the related games, movies, literature and other products.” In the ” two-dimension economy”, Bilibili animation, like Tencent, is one of China’s video sharing sites. It was launched in 2009, 3 years after Japan’s Niconico animation. Now the Bilibili animation owns about 76 million users per month, 80% of whom are young people born after the 1990s (the average age is around 20). In 2017, the operating profit of Bilibili animation increased sharply, and finally it was listed on NASDAQ. After listing, the popularity rises again, and China’s ” two-dimension economy” will develop more vigorously in the future. TIC’s new subsidiary TOKYO Business Bridge (TBB) also introduces Japanese culture to the Chinese market, such as animation, comics, ICONS and so on.
